Catagory 5 hurricane got the best of me... I ended up throwing up for two days, intermitantly. we steered around it. Meaning we got 70 mph winds. it got up to 120 mph near Jamaica. It also touched down in San Juan Puerto Rico right before we got there. Meaning all the little vendors weren't there, no tourism. We have alott of Jamaicans on board and i felt bad because they couldn't contact home. Our satellite was hit by lightening . unbelieable lightening,. it was so often that it looked like it was light oout but instead it was 2am. I was sitting in the mess hall eating dinner (by mmyself) and the Captain and first officer came in. (usually they never would eat with staff but he's really nice. anyway he asked if tthe two of them could jjoin me. it was funny becasue everyone fturned around to see who he asked to eat with.
I charmed the pants off them. I had them howling with laughter. The captain is from Ireland and the first officer is from Norway. Anywwho, long story short is that the first officer is like 32, he called me to see if I would join them and some other officers at the Captains table that evening. I had fun and they got a good chuckle at my cruisn' nativity. like for one, i kept calling it a boat. i guess there is a big difference between ship, boat, yacht, vessel...
All that aside, i got really homesick and almost jumped ship and swam home.
dad, the movies on board are changed monthly. we show about two different new realeases a day. that aside our budget to purchase the rights to play them for just these movies is $40,000 a month. yeah that is a big chunk of change.
we play movies in portuguese, spanish, french, german, italian, and chinese. the funny thing the other day is I met someone in the mess hall who spoke (click) kosa as his first language. He was impressed when I identified it first.
I feel bad for the phillipine workers as they are repairing the boat. in the wind they had to go out there and tie down all the deck chairs and anything up there. passengers weren't forced to go to there cabins but they weren't aloud outside, the doors were all "shut down"
all the water tight doors were shut too and if you have seen the titanic, they are located on decks a,2, 3. hence where all the chinese workers and labor crew. Kinda sad really.
so aftera ll said and done, we had alot of passengers sick, alot of people in our hospital onboard. alotta elderly people were in there too i heard. not a very fun place to be a nurse....or doctor...
hope all is well and i can't wait to talk to you all in Bayonne. I still don't my shcedule but as far as i know I am going to the voyager... love you all
